ACEC Recognizes Gannett Fleming, Clients With 15 Engineering Excellence Awards
Includes Five National Recognition Awards
In partnership with our valued clients and stakeholders, Gannett Fleming received 15 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Engineering Excellence Awards from seven state and regional member organizations and the national competition. The recognition of excellence in the engineering industry underscores our dedication to successful project delivery in various market sectors and working toward a better future, together.
ACEC New York bestowed awards to two Gannett Fleming projects, including a Diamond Award to the Brooklyn 3K Center at Flatbush Avenue School Renovation for the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA). This project transformed five separate retail spaces into one 27,330-square-foot educational 3K center and garnered a National Recognition Award at the ACEC 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. ACEC New York also recognized with a Platinum Award the Metropolitan Transportation Authority New York City Transit Livonia Avenue Station Mobility Project, which added accessibility upgrades at the station on the Canarsie Line in Brooklyn.
ACEC Metropolitan Washington awarded the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Dupont Circle Subway Canopy Project an Honor Award for the stainless steel and glass canopy covering the escalators at the Dupont Circle Metro Station’s north entrance. The project went on to receive a National Recognition Award. ACEC Metropolitan Washington also granted a Merit Award for the I-66 Theodore Roosevelt Bridge over the Potomac River Emergency Repairs, which included superstructure repair work on the historic bridge for the District Department of Transportation.
ACEC Arizona recognized the City of Phoenix and its PHX Sky Train® Stage 2 Automated People Mover System for engineering excellence in the Judge’s Choice Award and Grand Award categories. The project also garnered a National Recognition Award. The two-mile extension of the PHX Sky Train connects 14 million travelers annually to the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s consolidated Rental Car Center and Ground Transportation Center.
What started as a standard bridge re-decking quickly morphed into two complicated replacements for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Stark County, Ohio. The Stark-77 Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation used a first-in-state piling technique to replace these bridges atop aquifers on failing foundations and to rehabilitate three additional bridges. ACEC Ohio celebrated the project with an Outstanding Project Award, and it moved on to receive a National Recognition Award.
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Lifecycle Overhaul and Upgrade (LOU) Facility was another rail project that won at the state and national levels. The LOU received an ACEC Virginia Honor Award and a National Recognition Award. The new 35,000-square-foot facility optimizes the maintenance process and reduces costs by keeping trains in constant operation and performing at the highest level of reliability throughout the equipment’s lifespan.
ACEC California recognized the Bay Area Rapid Transit Transbay Tube (TBT) Seismic Retrofit with a Merit Award for renovating the TBT, adding an inner steel liner to critical sections, and installing a new water pumping system to mitigate damage from cracks and leaks in the event of earthquakes or landslides.
ACEC Massachusetts presented the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) with a Bronze Award for the Variable Message Sign (VMS) Replacement and Upgrade project, which allowed MassDOT to effectively manage traffic and reduce congestion along key corridors by using improved VMS infrastructure technology.
