Supporting Employees from Onboarding to Retirement
We know how important first impressions are, and we’re committed to providing our new employees with the tools and information they need to succeed from day one. All new hires attend an orientation to receive information on our important policies, procedures, safety guidelines, benefits, systems, and more. They’ll also work with their supervisors to establish goals after their first 60 days to ensure they have direction and support.
As we mature in our careers and lives, employees may take advantage of flexible work options, such as transitioning to part-time status or working in a specialized role. As employees approach retirement, they may be encouraged to participate in succession planning to help groom internal candidates to take on new challenges.
Performance Reviews
The Gannett Fleming Performance Evaluation Review (PER) facilitates continued and systematic communication and feedback between employees and supervisors. The primary objective of the process is to ensure the alignment of organizational strategy and culture with the goals and actions of each employee.
On an annual basis, and throughout the year, supervisors and employees use the PER collaboratively to formally:
- Establish and commit to measurable goals.
- Communicate organizational expectations.
- Provide interim feedback throughout the year.
- Assess, rate, and memorialize outcomes.

Tuition Reimbursement
Full- and part-time employees are eligible to seek tuition reimbursement for courses taken at officially accredited academic institutions that confer associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and/or doctoral degrees, including online colleges. Employees who are considering additional education should consult with their supervisors to determine eligibility and the options that are most suitable for the individual employee’s specific career objectives and the firm’s long-term goals and strategies.
Professional Certifications, Licenses, & Non-Degree/Non-Certification Continuing Education
Costs associated with professional and technical learning and career development courses (preparatory education) that are for the attainment and maintenance of licenses and/or certifications (e.g., PE, PG, PMP, RA, AICP, CPA, LEED AP, NICET, attorney license, and those that are comparable) are reimbursable.
Industry & Professional Memberships
As part of Gannett Fleming’s continued commitment to our employees’ career growth, the firm will reimburse annual membership dues for approved professional organizations – up to $300 per year. Gannett Fleming also participates in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Partner Program, which offers discounted rates for ASCE membership, plus full access to member benefits such as training courses, conference registrations, research and publications, and technical and academic resources.
Connected Relationships Mentoring Program
Led by our Connected Women at Gannett Fleming employee resource group, the Connected Relationships Mentoring Program seeks to utilize the existing knowledge, skills, and experience of senior employees and pair them with junior or less experienced employees at Gannett Fleming. The program is designed to allow senior staff the opportunity to help junior staff advance their careers, and both parties benefit in the areas of leadership, professional growth, and networking.
Course work for the Connected Relationships program includes, but is not limited to:
- Professional Growth.
- Career Management.
- Leadership.
- Business Development & Marketing.
- Project Management.
Internal Growth Opportunities
We want our employees to grow in their careers. While many employees will find significant opportunities for growth and development arising from their original positions, we recognize openings for other positions may also present exciting opportunities for employees to contribute in ways that are not on their current career path.
We established the Internal Growth Opportunities Program to ensure that all full-time, part-time, and hourly employees who have a minimum of 15 months of continuous service in their current organization and who express an interest are considered for posted job openings within the company.
Global Collaboration & Opportunity
Gannett Fleming is home to more than 2,500 employees at 50+ offices worldwide. Our employees collaborate across business groups and geographies, and we also encourage and support internal transfers between offices as project or business needs allow.
President’s Innovation Award
Each year, we recognize already-implemented innovations with the President’s Innovation Award. Employees who created an innovative solution that changed the industry; created new capabilities or opened new opportunities or markets; or significantly reduced costs are eligible to apply. The winning team receives a monetary prize!
Gannett Fleming Scholarship Programs
We believe it’s our responsibility to invest in the future by investing in our children, and the Gannett Fleming Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships to the children and grandchildren of Gannett Fleming employees. The number and amounts of the scholarships vary from year to year, but we invite all high school seniors and current undergraduate students under the age of 25 who show exceptional leadership and character to apply.
We also believe in innovation, social responsibility, diversity of our team, and improving the lives of the people we serve. For this reason, we award multiple AEC scholarships supporting Black and/or female students with academic and leadership potential as they pursue a career in engineering, construction services, computer science, or architecture.
