Shaping the Future of Roadways, Tolling, and Managed Lanes
MOBILIZING NORTH AMERICAN ROADWAYS FOR ANOTHER 100 YEARS
Gannett Fleming has shaped infrastructure and improved communities since 1915, bringing a sharp focus on innovative, sustainable, and equitable engineering practices.
In the 1940s, the nation’s roadway system was developing into a vast network of expressways and turnpikes. Gannett Fleming partnered with the Pennsylvania Turnpike to design major portions of the trailblazing roadway, which set the standard for the tolling industry and became the model for many toll roads that followed.
The subsequent development of the interstate highway system in the 1950s and 1960s was a major catalyst for our further growth in the transportation market. Gannett Fleming not only kept pace, but we became a pioneer of excellence in transportation, designing projects hailed among the finest roadways in the U.S.
Your Partner in Mobility
Gannett Fleming knows our world is changing. The demand for safe and sustainable infrastructure solutions is evolving how we approach mobility. From electrification to connected vehicles, we are cognizant that communities want, and need, future-focused solutions that connect people, communities, goods, and businesses. We also understand that there is a looming crisis in the United States – our infrastructure requires significant financial investment, but we cannot rely on the Liquid Fuels Tax as a sustainable funding model any longer.
Gannett Fleming finds innovative solutions that suit your transportation needs, like implementing Road Usage Charge (RUC) or Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) fees, and balances community feedback and public concern. Time after time, our clients rely on our ability to plan, design, and construct roadways that fit their requirements while staying on-time and on-budget.
Our Vision for Safety
Each year, more than 40,000 people are killed in the United States from traffic accidents, with thousands more injured, as reported by the Vision Zero Network. The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) has adopted a Vision Zero mentality, creating a national goal of zero deaths on our roadways.
Gannett Fleming supports this mission, prioritizing safety for construction workers, motorists, and the pedestrian public in every work zone. We achieve the highest level of safety for our client projects by providing a proactive safety program supported by the latest personal protective equipment, well-defined procedures, and practice-specific training.
Quality Projects, Every Time
With a staunch commitment to continuous quality improvement, our primary focus is client satisfaction on every project. We meet your needs by understanding your critical objectives then delivering high-quality services that meet or exceed expectations. Our clients value the expertise and responsive attention we bring, which results in us serving as a trusted advisor invested in making our clients’ visions a reality.
Gannett Fleming has received national and international recognition for our roadway innovation, expertise, and leadership, consistently ranked in the top 20 by Engineering News-Record (ENR).
Highway and Interchanges
We know what it takes to plan, design, build, safely operate, and maintain roadways. We’ve completed thousands of miles of multilane and split-level roadway designs. Our final designs include interchanges ranging from the simple diamond type in rural areas to complex, diverging diamond, and single-point urban interchanges. While we’re best known for major highway design, we also design two-lane arterials, realignments, and bridge approaches – all the parts necessary to complete the transportation ecosystem. And, we have expertise in localized streetscape, traffic calming, context-sensitive solution design, and Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) recognized initiatives.Urban or rural, simple or complex – whatever the location or project needs, we work alongside you to achieve the optimal, localized approach to your project.
Tolling and Managed Lanes
Transportation agencies worldwide must make the most out of their systems’ performance – to improve current and future mobility, ensure financial stability, and achieve sustainability.
Whether the future for your agency is cashless tolling, managed lanes, or a LEED-certified toll facility, we have the in-depth knowledge and experience to help you develop the most viable approach.
