In The News: Matkowski Discusses Planning for Connected and Automated Vehicles for APWA
The American Public Works Association recently featured an article by Vice President and Director of Planning Laurie Matkowski, PMP, in the APWA Reporter magazine, where she shares her insights on planning for connected and automated vehicles (CAV).
Matkowski discusses the basics of what CAVs are and their capabilities, along with future considerations such as data management and road usage charging. She emphasizes the importance of using federal resources for regional and local adaptation, and the role of education in adopting CAV technologies. Matkowski underscores the need for comprehensive planning and collaboration across different government levels and organizations to successfully integrate CAVs into future mobility strategies.
“Explore what neighboring municipalities, counties, metropolitan and rural planning organizations, or states are doing in this space and collaborate. Keep communities engaged and provide education on the benefits,” says Matkowski.
