The theme of the Emerging Leaders track this year focuses on work-life balance and mindfulness in the age of the hybrid-work environment. In recent years, it has been easy to fall into the routine of work days filled with meeting after meeting, leaving less time for casual workplace connections, mentoring future generations, and accomplishing our own daily tasks to meet deadlines. Given this working model is here to stay, it’s up to the future leaders of our industry to develop strategies and best practices to make it work in a healthy way. This event will be an open and honest discussion where attendees will discuss successful actions and learning opportunities on what we’ve experienced over the last few years and develop goals and strategies to make our leadership impactful while ensuring that our industry is as supportive, inclusive, accessible, and successful as possible.

Alexandra Gore, PE, PMP from WSP is also moderating.

Pursuing a mega project can be a career defining experience for an Emerging Leader. As middle management, many Emerging Leaders have not yet been exposed to the early works and proposal execution phase of a mega project.  As the next generation of leaders, a critical part of success is developing a successful proposal strategy for the upcoming mega pursuit, and executing it to perfection. The steps include assembling a proposal execution team, holding prepositioning meetings with the client,  and learning as much about the project in advance of the issuance of the RFQ/RFP as possible. Who are the key project shareholders, what politics may be at play, and understanding the projects impacts to the community are all keys to winning the proposal, and ultimately, delivering a successful project for your client.

How can an Emerging Leader contribute to this process? Hear from an executive industry professional with a proven track record of mega project delivery.

This session qualifies for 1 PDH credit.

We will also discuss the traditional Design Build model and hear from the panelists about their perspectives on the issues that the AEC industry faces when it comes to delivering public projects through the lump sum Design Build model.

  • Dana Hecht, Vice President Construction and Development, Metropolitan Transit Authority
  • Jenny Gillette, RA, Senior Design Executive, Engineering, Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
