Gannett Fleming, in partnership with our valued clients and teaming partners, received 11 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) project awards across six state and regional member organizations and the national competition. This recognition of engineering excellence reflects our continued commitment to successful project delivery across market sectors and creating a better future, together.
ACEC Arizona recognized the Phoenix Convention Center Shoring Wall project for engineering excellence in several categories, including the Best Project Over $2.5 Million Award, Judge’s Choice Award, and Grand Award. This safety-driven project, situated in a tight urban site between a public building, an active light rail line, and a major arterial, created a new permanent shoring wall for this busy community hub by applying an innovative application of complex post-tensioned tieback coordination. The project also garnered a National Recognition Award in ACEC’s Engineering Excellence awards program.
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) Railway Bridge over Tri-State (I-294) Tollway Rehabilitation / Reconstruction project reconstructed a new BNSF railroad bridge over the Tri-State Tollway. ACEC Illinois celebrated the project with an Honor Award – Transportation. The project for the Illinois Tollway / BNSF-owned structure in Cook County also received a National Recognition Award.
Another rail bridge replacement project was an award winner at the state and national levels. The Lazelle Road Widening & Railroad Bridge Replacements received a National Recognition Award and the ACEC Ohio Outstanding Achievement Award. The project was a vital railroad bridge replacement for the City of Columbus, operated by CSX and Norfolk Southern.
ACEC Massachusetts recognized the Umpachene Falls Road River Bridge Replacement with a Bronze Award. The project created a replacement bridge structure in New Marlborough over the Konkapot River for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highway Division.
ACEC Metropolitan Washington awarded the King Street – Old Town Metro Access Improvement Project an Honor Award for the design of the City of Alexandria’s renovated ground transportation center. The King Street – Old Town Metro Station now has new access points and amenities, including a new bus loop, pedestrian and bicyclist access infrastructure, and a kiss-and-ride area.
The Hopewell Water Treatment Plant Industrial Pump Station and Chemical / UV Facility, a Virginia American Water-owned drinking water facility, received a Merit Award from ACEC Virginia. The project combined ultraviolet (UV) light and advanced oxidation processes (AOP) to help ensure regulatory compliance and address taste and odor concerns. This engineering innovation represents the first application of AOP using UV at a Virginia drinking water facility.
Gannett Fleming celebrates these award-winning projects that align with ACEC’s mission to strengthen infrastructure, improve public safety, raise the profile of the engineering industry, and provide client and engineering firms with cost-effective and sustainable solutions. These award winners are just a sampling of the numerous Gannett Fleming projects that help improve the communities we serve.
