Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PSHIA) Crossfield Taxiway U Design Development

Gannett Fleming is leading design development and program support services for the new Crossfield Taxiway Uniform (Taxiway U), which consists of a new taxiway on the west side of the airport connecting Taxiway Charlie (Taxiway C) on the north to Taxiway Delta (Taxiway D) on the south. Taxiway U will be 2,000 feet long and 214 feet wide, accommodating a 75-foot-wide taxiway, 30-foot-wide shoulders, and taxiway safety areas.

The centerline-to-centerline separation between Taxiway U and future Taxiway Victor (Taxiway V) will be set at the Group V separation of 298 feet, complying with Group V FAA Aircraft Standards. The project is funded, in part, through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Several roadway design phases are scheduled to accommodate Taxiway U and the proposed Taxiway V, including a three-span continuous bridge structure for each taxiway, with extended shoulders for utilities and incident management. Roadway alignments and profiles will accommodate future airport development, including:

• The Arizona Department of Transportation / Maricopa Association of Governments I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
• Roadway security plazas.
• Taxiway V.
• Terminal development to the east.

Construction projects are also planned for the West Air Cargo area, parking lot modifications, and a new ground-service equipment storage area northeast of Cargo Building A.

• Realignment of Sky Harbor Boulevard and Buckeye Road.
• Reconstructed employee parking lot and storage yard.

• Supports PHX Sky Harbor’s objective of net zero carbon by 2040.
• Planes and passengers spend less time in transit to the gates, enhancing operational efficiency.
• Improved ground operations safety.
• Augmented airfield operations.
• Increased overall passenger access to and from the airport.
