USTRANSCOM Seaport Assessments
Our Client’s Challenge
The United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) provides responsible and strategic mobility for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). In the case of national defense emergencies, all U.S. seaports pivot to support DOD’s mission-critical needs. Continuing its digital transformation, USTRANSCOM wanted to leverage peacetime to evaluate seaports, including deployment logistics, to implement geographic information systems (GIS) and geospatial technology without disrupting commercial operations.
GIS introduced the power of location data by comparing seaport locations with roadway accessibility and other terrain components. Both projects contain an international component with the same analysis and risk assessment for outside continental United States (OCONUS) seaport assessment and GIS collection.
Gannett Fleming collaborated with our GIS, data management, and technology division, GeoDecisions, to provide global GIS seaport assessment support and location intelligence for ports. Seaport assessments and GIS technology implementation are two equally important tasks. Together, our solutions allow USTRANSCOM to meet its strategic objectives.
